Education Opportunities through SMPS

SMPS Columbus provides several education opportunities for our members. We provide Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) through our monthly programs and several Marketing Idea Exchange (MIX) Events throughout our chapter program year. We also offer CPSM courses and have a "Lending Library" of resources for members to check out at no cost! See below for more details:


Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) Study Group

Interested in learning more about CPSM CertificationHave trouble studying by yourself?Consider joining the CPSM U Class and Study Group starting in October 2013!

What is CPSM U? 

CPSM U is modeled after an actual college course – complete with a syllabus, assigned readings, supplemental readings and weekly homework. A new feature of this year's course are two check-in dates; one mid-way through the reading and one at prior to test taking to review the material previously covered.

 Benefits of CPSM Designation:

  • Increased knowledge of strategic marketing research and planning, client development and organizational management
  • Industry recognition of your professional competence
  • Enhanced credibility with employers, clients and peers

If you are planning to take the CPSM exam or are just interested in learning more about it, the CPSM Study Group (codenamed CPSMU) will be kicking off again in 2013. The study group is free to attend and is an invaluable resource in preparing for the exam. The Marketing Handbook - the primary reading material - is available for loan from the Columbus Chapter Library as well as several other referenced books and study materials available to borrow.

The CPSM Study Group and Class will meet at the Grandview Heights Public Library on September 30, 2013 for an information session. We will go over the schedule, fees, eligibility requirements, application process and scholarship requirements.

Below is the tenative schedule for the Study Group:

Classes are scheduled from 5:15-7:00pm at the Grandview Heights Library. *The February 24 session will be held at NBBJ offices due to a conflict at the library. Study Materials and Homework assignments are at in the Columbus Chapter CPSM Study Group community on MySMPS.org

SMPS Columbus Lending Library

As a special benefit to SMPS member, we offer an exclusive library of publications devoted to marketing in the A/E/C industry. Other, more general business publications with applications in our industry are also available.

Check Out Procedures:
Simply e-mail Amy Shea, CPSM, Education Director at ashea@wsastudio.com with your selections. A confirming e-mail will then be sent to you with a pick-up date for your materials. If an item is currently unavailable, the requested book will be placed on hold for you and you will be notified when they are ready for pick-up.

Pick-Up/Drop-Off of Materials:
Books can be picked-up at WSA Studio (982 S. Front Street, Columbus, Ohio 43206). If this is not possible, other arrangements can be made. To drop-off materials, please enclose a cover note ATTENTION: Amy Shea. If you prefer, you can also mail, Fed-Ex or UPS the books back to Amy’s attention.

Check-Out Requirements:
Each publication is available for loan for up to three (3) weeks to any current SMPS member from date of check out. In an effort to provide as many members as possible with access to the library materials, a limit of two (2) books per member is permitted at any one time.
